Tips for Finding a Job in Cleveland

Anyone who is unemployed knows that the job market it tough right now, especially in the Cleveland area. That does not mean that there is not hope. There are many job openings in the Cleveland area right now. It can be all too easy to get frustrated with your job search after a few companies have turned you down for a job. They key to finding a job in Cleveland is perseverance and a positive attitude. Besides those two key factors, here are some other tips to finding a great job in the Cleveland area:

1. Do not limit your job search to what you are used to. So, you have worked in the same job field all your life and no one is hiring in that field at the moment. Should you just sit and wait for an opening in that field? May suggestion is: no. You should branch out, even if it is only for the short term. If you need a job, you need to be options other than what you are used to. You never know, you may enjoy your new job and want to work there permanently. Even if you do not love your new job, it can help bring in some income to tide you over until there are job openings in your field.

2. Make yourself stand out from the crowd of job applicants. So many companies today want potential employees to simply fill out an online application and never meet any potential recruits in person until they choose who they want to interview. This can be detrimental to not only the job seeker, but also the company. This means that they judge every candidate only by what is on that form. Use this process to your advantage by taking a visit to the company you have filled out an online application with. Once a couple of workdays have passed, take a visit to the company in person. Ask to speak with the manager. Tell them that you filled out an online application and would like to speak with the manager to further explain why you are a great candidate for the job. One or two managers may look at you as if you are crazy, but there are many who will appreciate your efforts. They will see that you are willing to go the extra mile to land the job, which means that you will go the extra mile when on the job.

To the many Clevelanders who are unemployed, seasonal jobs may not sound like a very good opportunity. Most Cleveland job seekers want a job that is going to last, but they should not disregard seasonal jobs. Seasonal jobs can provide an opportunity for those who have been out of work to add a new experience to their resume, while making some much-needed cash at the same time. Yes, these jobs do come to an end after the holiday season, but that just means that you should keep putting in those job applications and resumes while you are making a bit of money to help tide you over. You never know, you may receive a job offer that you are able to start immediately after your seasonal job is over. What's the Deal with Cleveland Temp Agencies?

This is my first post on this blog, but I definitely have experience searching for a job in the hideous Cleveland job market. Why do you think I gave up and started writing online instead? I do have a friend who is currently searching for a job in the Cleveland area, and I thought that I would chronicle some of his experiences to show other Clevelanders that they are not alone in their struggle in looking for a job. He was recently laid off from a job that he had for over a year. Not long, by any means, but sadly the job he had before that he was laid off from also. I mean a real, full- or part-time or temp to hire job?

Manufacturing is a Pretty Accessible Career Choice

My husband used to work in manufacturing, and while he was laid off, there seem to be many other manufacturing jobs available. Unfortunately most of them are a commute of at least an hour or longer away from us, making the trip there and back too much for what the jobs are worth. Still, these are the jobs that call back most often, and it’s no wonder why. They train you as soon as you start (usually paid training), don’t expect a lot of experience, offer decent pay for a basic skill set, and even have flexible shifts; most manufacturing plants that I know of have an early day, afternoon, and evening shift.
